The Living Wing
The history rooms next door read the record. This wing makes one. It is a room for lived stories, the resonant lives that were never in the news, told by the people who lived them or carried by the families who loved them, gathered slowly and with permission at every step.
Some stories in a family only get told once. The wing exists so that when the telling happens, someone knows how to listen, and the story lands in a grandchild's hands instead of going where the teller goes.
Three tables, and the teller chooses
The family table
The wing teaches, and the family keeps everything. A listening guide, a recording checklist for a phone, prompts for the hidden chapters. Nothing is submitted or uploaded, and the wing never knows the story exists. For most families this table is the whole wing, and that is success rather than a missed step.
The guides are being drafted with care, in the right order, and the order starts with a conversation.
The open table
Hosted listening events, in person, in the neighborhoods, where a teller speaks and the room listens. Nothing is recorded unless the teller separately chooses it. The event is the product, and the listeners are trained and paid, because listening at this level is skilled labor.
The first table will be small and hosted well. Dates will appear here.
The shelf table
Publication, for the tellers who want their story kept in the open. Consent in writing, the final form approved by the teller, ownership staying with the teller or their family, revocation and takedown honored, and a named steward on every published story. Every published teller receives their story back as a made thing: a small bound book, theirs to give.
This table opens last, behind a public covenant now being drafted against the best consent practice in the world, and the covenant will be published on this page before the first story is.
What this wing refuses
No extraction: a story is not harvested for reports, marketing, or the illustration of anyone's thesis, including ours. No editing a teller into a lesson: the story means what the teller says it means. No trauma display: the wound appears as the teller carries it, and every life kept here is by definition a story of continuance. No accounts and no tracking for readers, in the standing manner of the whole shelf. And no urgency: a family that walks through and takes nothing has not failed anything.
